Mandate
The Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) is a Crown Corporation established under the Private Career Training Institutions Act, which came into effect in November 2004. It's mandate set out in the Act is to:
- establish basic education standards for registered institutions and provide consumer protection to the students and prospective students of registered institutions;
- establish standards of quality that must be met by accredited institutions; and
- carry out, in the public interest, its powers, duties and functions under the Act.
Further direction and accountability is provided through an annual Government Letter of Expectations, executed jointly by the Chair of the PCTIA Board and the Minister of Advanced Education.
